Why Adam’s Place?
Loss is all too common during childhood. In the United States, approximately one in 20 children will lose a parent by the time they reach 16 years of age and the vast majority of children experience a significant loss by the time they complete high school.
Why Adam's Place?
Grieving children are vastly overlooked—both in society at large and in schools in particular. Teachers’ and classmates’ responses to a student’s grief can either serve as a source of support and stability during a difficult time, or as an additional hurdle to surmount. Moreover, grief can have a serious impact on learning for school-age children; bereavement can manifest itself in decreased academic performance, social withdrawal, and behavioral problems.
What does Adam's Place provide?
Adam's Place provides 8 sessions of coping skills, education and support for children and teens through out the school year at no cost to the family. We coordinate our eight sessions into two programs: fall camp and winter camp. The bonds created with peers - coping - skills acquired and confidence gained help Adam's Place kids to increase school attendance and performance. Adam's Place has been providing support group programs since 2009.
