Gentle Reminder: Grief Doesn’t Follow a Calendar

A new year often comes with pressure to feel hopeful, motivated, or “ready to move forward.” For grieving children and families, January can feel heavy instead. At Adam’s Place, we want you to know there is no timeline for grief—and no expectation to start fresh before you are ready.

Grief does not reset when the calendar changes. It moves at its own pace, and that pace is valid. While the world around us celebrates "new beginnings," we honor the enduring love and memories you carry with you every day.

As we step into 2026, our wish for our community is one of balance and peace. May this year bring you moments of deep comfort, a sense of prosperity in your connections with others, and the strength of good health—both in mind and body. We hope you find gentle ways to celebrate your resilience and experience a Happy New Year that feels authentic to your journey.

Grief does not move in a straight line. Both children and adults may experience waves of sadness, anger, numbness, or even brief moments of joy—sometimes all in the same day. These shifts are a natural part of grief and do not mean anyone is “going backward.” They simply reflect the many ways grief shows up over time.

Helpful Tool: Release the Pressure
Rather than setting resolutions, consider creating gentle intentions for the days ahead, such as:

  • “We will take things one day at a time.”
  • “We will notice what feels supportive and what doesn’t.”

Small, compassionate intentions can create space for healing without added pressure.

🎒 A New Year of Healing: Spring 2026 Camp Cope

As we step into January, Adam’s Place is ready to welcome families back for our Spring 2026 Camp Cope sessions. We know that the start of a new year can feel heavy when you are navigating loss, and we are here to ensure you don’t have to walk that path alone.

Camp Cope provides a free, supportive, and structured environment where children, teens, and caregivers can find a community that truly "gets it." Through creative activities and guided peer support, our families find the tools to build resilience and hope, one session at a time.

We are proud to offer two convenient locations for our Spring sessions.

🌟 Make a Impact This New Year — Become a Camp Cope Facilitator! 🌟
Are you looking for a meaningful way to support grieving children and teens in our community? Join us on January 10, 2026, for our Camp Cope Facilitator Training — an inspiring, hands-on day where you’ll learn how to guide youth through healing, hope, and connection.

Our volunteers are the heart of Camp Cope ❤️. As a facilitator, you’ll help kids feel seen, heard, and supported during some of the toughest moments of their lives. Many families share that Camp Cope is the first place their child felt safe enough to talk about their grief — and that’s because of compassionate people like you.

Whether you're a school staff member, community partner, or someone with a big heart looking to give back, this training will equip you with the tools, confidence, and community you need to make a real difference.
