When:

November 5 - 7, 2021

Día De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a multi-day (2-3 days) holiday that reunites the living and dead. It originated and is mostly observed in Mexico but also in other places, especially by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. Day of the Dead is a rare holiday for celebrating death and life. It is unlike any holiday where mourning is exchanged for celebration.

This 3,000-year-old Hispanic celebration honoring loved ones is full of joy and tradition. This family-friendly event blends rich customs with exciting activities such as live theater and dance performances, altars, mariachis, sugar skull decorating, and an art exhibition. One of the highlights of the family-friendly celebration is what the altar residents, community groups, and artists create to honor deceased relatives. Participants decorate their altars with photographs of the departed, yellow marigold flowers, burning candles and incense, favorite foods of their loved ones, and much more. Poems with fun phrases are recited to lighten the mood; also, music and dance are part of the traditional celebration. (Source: https://dayofthedead.holiday/)

This year on November 5-7, the Springs Preserve will present its colorful Día De Los Muertos outdoor event, celebrating a centuries-old tradition rooted in Latin American cultures! Additionally, Adam's Place will have an altar for display at the Springs Preserve to represent our social-emotional learning program, Camp Cope!
