Adam’s Place Teddy Bear drive for children in need of comfort

https://www.8newsnow.com/news/local-news/adams-place-teddy-bear-drive-for-children-in-need-of-comfort/

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Adam’s Place announced National Children’s Grief Awareness month throughout November with a Teddy Bear drive and scholarship fundraiser to benefit their coping skills program.

Death can be hard for adults to cope with, but it’s especially difficult for kids. Adam’s Place is a local organization that provides comfort and support to children who lost a loved one.

When children participate in the Children’s Coping Skills program, they have their own backpacks filled with healthy coping tools and a new Teddy Bear.

Even after the event is over, Teddy Bears may be dropped off at the following locations throughout November: Adam’s Place, Sierra Air Conditioning & Heating, Jaguar Land Rover, AMS, LV Pharmacy and eight LienRx Pharmacies.

“Our programs are focused on coping and communications skills education. Our goal is to help participants gain skills, decrease isolation and stigma by increasing self-esteem and self-reliance. Adam’s Place exists thanks to support from our community businesses, private donations and our volunteers. Whether you choose to sponsor one child or two, or a whole classroom, your donation will help cover costs of materials, art supplies, snacks and peer activities,” said Kelly Thomas-Boyers, executive director of Adam’s Place.

Adam’s Place is a Las Vegas 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible. For more information, visit the Adam’s Place website here.

Restful Minds: The Critical Link Between Sleep and Children’s Mental Health

Sleep is crucial for children's mental health and overall well-being, facilitating essential processes like memory consolidation and emotional regulation. During sleep, especially during non-REM stages, the brain strengthens neural connections, aiding learning and information retention. Insufficient sleep can hinder memory consolidation, leading to difficulties in acquiring new skills. Additionally, adequate sleep supports emotional regulation, helping children manage mood and behavior effectively, while sleep deprivation can increase emotional reactivity and mood disorders risk. Furthermore, sufficient sleep is vital for regulating impulses and attention, promoting appropriate behavior and cognitive function in children. Parents and caregivers can foster healthy sleep habits by establishing consistent routines and prioritizing adequate sleep, contributing to children's mental and physical well-being.

Explore further insights into the correlation between sleep and children’s mental health in the informative how-to guide authored by On Our Sleeves Behavioral Health Experts.

Springing Forward: Navigating Grief with Evidence-Based Strategies

As we welcome the arrival of March and the promise of spring, it's important to recognize that for many, this season brings a unique set of challenges, particularly for those who are grieving. Research-backed approaches offer valuable insights into how we can support ourselves and others during this time of transition.

Connecting with nature has been shown to have profound effects on emotional well-being, especially amidst grief. As the world around us bursts with new life, consider spending time outdoors, whether it's taking leisurely walks in a nearby park or nurturing a garden.

Maintaining a healthy routine is crucial. Regular exercise and adequate sleep can provide a solid foundation for navigating complex emotions as the days grow longer.

Social support is essential on the journey of grief. Whether it's seeking comfort from friends, family, or support groups, reaching out can offer invaluable reassurance and understanding.

Engaging in creative activities can also be therapeutic. Consider journaling, art, or music as outlets for self-expression and finding meaning amidst loss.

As March unfolds, let's integrate these evidence-based strategies into our coping mechanisms. By embracing resilience and hope, we can navigate the path of grief with strength and determination.

Navigating Grief in the Shadow of Love: A Journey Through February’s Challenges

Grieving during a month that celebrates love and relationships presents distinctive challenges. February, adorned with heart-shaped symbols and romantic expectations, can magnify the sense of loss for those grieving.

To navigate this challenging time, alternative approaches can provide solace. Focusing on self-love becomes a transformative act of healing. Redirecting attention to personal well-being through self-care rituals, self-reflection, and indulging in individual pleasures can offer a respite from the societal pressures of the day.

Alternatively, honoring the memory of our loved one shifts the narrative. Creating meaningful rituals, sharing memories with others, or engaging in activities that celebrate the enduring impact of our loved ones can help transform the day into a celebration of love!

In essence, acknowledging the challenges of grieving during a month centered around love and relationships opens the door to alternative perspectives. By embracing self-love or honoring the memory of our loved ones, we can find strength and healing amidst the emotional complexities of February.

Dive into the world of healing stories! 📚 Join us for an exhilarating webinar presented by the authors themselves! Explore 'The Invisible String' and discover how this captivating book becomes a powerful therapeutic tool for children's grief support groups. 🌈 Gain knowledge, ignite compassion, and earn CE credits!
