April 2025 – Volunteer Newsletter

Hello Adam’s Place Volunteers!

As the flowers bloom and the days grow longer, we’re reminded of the growth and resilience we see every day in the families we serve. April is a time of renewal, and here at Adam’s Place, that means fresh opportunities to connect, support, and uplift our community through compassion and care.

This month, we’re filled with gratitude for the incredible work each of you continues to do. From helping at Camp Cope sessions to representing us at community events, your dedication helps create a safe space for healing and hope.

Let’s continue to make a difference—together.

🌟 Facilitator Training
📅 Date: August 23, 2025
⏰ Time: 9 AM – 4 PM
📍 Location: In-person at Summerlin Hospital

Here’s what one of our facilitators shared about their experience:
"As a facilitator, it has been an honor to support all Camp Cope participants on their journey by listening to their stories and teaching them healthy coping skills. Through this experience, I have gained a deeper understanding of grief and the challenges that all family members face when losing a loved one. Beyond that, I have formed lifelong friendships with fellow facilitators and staff at Adam’s Place. I am forever grateful for the experiences and memories I have made and deeply admire the incredible work they do to support grieving families and provide accessible care."

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I use all of the activities in the binder or pick and choose?
The Camp Cope Resource Manual is organized by session/theme. We recommend using activities from each of the eight grief related themes throughout your sessions. For each theme you can choose your preferred activities. When choosing activities you may want to consider- the age group you are working with, available materials and/or space, and specific interests or goals you have for the children and teens in your group.

How do I find Adam's Place Education and Training Marketplace Webinar offerings?
Visit our website www.adamsplacelv.org and use the Events Tab to select Continuing Education to view and register for webinars. Be on the lookout for emails from Adam's Place highlighting upcoming webinar topics and registration information. Upcoming webinars are also featured in Adam's Place newsletters and on our social media channels- Facebook and Instagram.

Do I need to complete all 4 Facilitator Training Modules to begin my Camp Cope Program?
As long as you have completed Modules 1-2, you have the resources you need to get started with your Camp Cope Program. Module 3 (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Grief Work) and Module 4 (Advanced Facilitator Training) will help you enhance your skills along the way. You will receive your certificate for Camp Cope Facilitator Training once all 4 modules have been completed.

What if the group made the students feel sad?
Sadness is a normal, expected feeling for individuals who are grieving. The purpose of Camp Cope peer support groups are for participants to have a safe place to express their feelings. Consider the following ideas to help your students transition into and out of group time.
1- Build opening and closing routines for your group. Reference the facilitator handbook located in your Camp Cope Resource Manual for suggestions.
2- Validate feelings and experiences shared during the group.
3- Consider setting some time aside nearing the end of your group for an activity that helps decrease stress- a breathing activity, yoga stretches, or brief game/activity that is not grief related may help.
4- Empower students to share what they enjoy about the group and what helps them to feel connected and supported so you can continue to incorporate these things.
5- Conduct Feelings Check Ins throughout your group session and encourage students to check in with each other throughout their school week.
