Adam’s Place announces call for volunteers to facilitate peer groups for children coping with loss
Adam’s Place, a local nonprofit that provides grief support for children, teens, and families in Southern Nevada, will be hosting its annual volunteer facilitators’ training coming up on May 2nd, 2020. (Training may take place in person or via Zoom.)
Trained volunteer facilitators at Adam’s Place lead and encourage groups of children and teens, ages 3-18, to express the many feelings that are part of the grieving process. In a safe and confidential setting, either at our facility or on a school campus, group and members discuss and take part in activities with others who share similar life-changing experiences.
“Volunteers are the heart of Adam’s Place. The direct service volunteers provide is invaluable to us and our community,” said Adam’s Place founder, Kelly Thomas-Boyers. “Volunteers benefit too, from helping others, meeting new people, and contributing to a greater purpose beyond themselves. We are young, energetic group the will support you throughout your volunteer experience.”
Leslee Shell is a current volunteer facilitator at Adam’s Place and she’s among those who are making a difference in the lives of families coping with loss.
“The best part of volunteering at Adam’s Place is being trusted to travel with a family on their grief journey,” said Shell. “The children’s bravery and honesty in the face of such difficult loss makes me thankful to be a part in providing them a safe and compassionate place to heal.”
For the past 11 years, Adam’s Place relies on community support to fund ongoing programs and new projects like “MUSIC U”, a collaboration with local musical mentors to give children a chance to expand their coping skills in a healthy way. Our other services include Junior Camp Cope, Adult Parenting Skills Programs, In-School Camp Cope Programs, Quarterly Healthy Coping Workshops, Quarterly Family Connections Events, Spring Well Corporate Employee training and On-Site Support Group Facilitation, along with Motivational Guest Speaker Engagements.
